Arlo Booth, father: singer/songwriter who garnered a huge following in Germany and Denmark but absolutely nowhere else. Currently makes a killing writing theme music for prime-time television programs and independent films.
Penelope Goodfellow Booth, mother: chef, activist, author of several cookbooks, including: Vegan Parties: A Guide to Cruelty-Free Entertaining, The Vegan Gourmet, Tantalizing Tofu, Satisfying Seitan, and An Apple a Day: Vegan Recipes Children Love.
Pippa Booth, sister: twelve and annoyingly precocious.
Ariel Booth was a troublemaker from day one. Born just after midnight the day after Thanksgiving (three weeks and two days early), little Ari single-handedly managed to ruin the vegan feast for twelve (seitan “turkey” with sage-tofu gravy, shallot-chestnut dressing, mashed parsnips, edamame seasoned with fleur-de-sel, cranberry-orange sauce with candied pecans, pomegranate agar-agar mold, and several equally appealing desserts) his heavily pregnant mother had so painstakingly begun to prepare the day before.
As his parents like to remind him, it was all downhill from there.
Ari was an extremely winsome child who learned very early on that baby-blue eyes, a ready grin, and a convincing story could go a long way in getting what he wanted. Charming peers, parents, babysitters, and teachers alike, he and his friends managed to get away with far more than they probably should have. He demonstrated considerable musical talent at a young age (he plays the clarinet, bassoon, guitar and pan flute) and a natural flair for acting shortly thereafter. More recently, he’s discovered a rather insatiable (and not entirely vanilla) appetite for sex and other physical pleasures.
He does fairly well in school (admittedly, his grades in math and science could use some improvement), and is an active member of the band and drama club. He doesn’t participate in any of the athletics offered at Olympia Heights, but he very much enjoys outdoor activities like hiking, climbing, camping and kayaking. He also rides his bike a lot, but this is mostly due to his wealthy-but-ecologically-conscious parents and their belief that no seventeen year old boy is in need of a car when he has two functioning legs and little need to travel outside the ten mile radius surrounding his home.
personality
Ari is charismatic, spirited, and rebellious. A consummate flirt, he exudes a ruggedly-sensual-yet-oddly-flamboyant charm, which he uses to weasel his way into (clubs, pants) and out of (trouble, assignments) situations with ease. He loves playing practical jokes, but sometimes just doesn’t know when to quit. If there's trouble to be found, it would be fair to assume that he had something to do with it. He doesn’t stir things up out of truly malicious intent, but he does enjoy a laugh at someone else’s expense now and then.
Despite his more undesirable qualities, Ari’s really not all that bad. He’s creative, friendly, and cares a great deal about those he considers friends. He tries to get along with people in general, but has accepted that there are a few people out there who just won’t like him. He’s cool with that.
POSITIVE
Talents: a fine musician and actor, considerably talented in the bedroom, decent writer.
Personality Strengths: charming, witty, friendly, laid-back, persuasive.
Likes: music, sex, the stage, pranks, girls, guys, booze, drugs (nothing too hard, though), the outdoors, iambic pentameter, coffee, bands with female vocalists, supporting small businesses, any shade of green.
NEGATIVE
Flaws: Not particularly athletic (at least not when it comes to team sports), terrible dancer (two left feet – a choreographer’s nightmare), not the greatest student.
Personality Flaws: stubborn, sneaky, insensitive, a bit selfish, nosy, crude.
Dislikes: prudes, police, Corporate America, people who can’t take a joke, mornings.
miscellaneous
1. Ari really likes meat, despite growing up in a completely vegan household. He doesn’t have the heart to tell his mother, however, so only indulges in animal products outside the home.
2. He has a bit of an oral fixation and can often be seen chewing on a reed or guitar pick while reading, listening to music, etc.
3. He taught himself Portuguese over the summer between sophomore and junior years. Why? Because he could.
