Regulus Arcturus, second and last child born to Orion and Walburga Black, entered the world on a bitterly cold day in February 1961. As one would expect, he was raised in a manner befitting the second son of a wealthy pureblood family: provided with best of everything, schooled in the importance of family and blood (although he doesn't quite hate muggles and muggleborns, he feels that they are inferior to pureblood wizards), and largely ignored.

He was a quiet child, a boy who quickly learned how to avoid being seen or heard. Observation is a powerful thing, and, as time passed, he found that he much preferred to watch, listen, and learn. Over the years, he’s come to know what it means to be a Black – and what it doesn’t mean. He’s watched Sirius shame the family with his blood-traitorous ways, and has striven to be everything his older brother is not: the perfect son and a credit to his Most Ancient and Noble House. For now, Orion and Walburga have faith that Sirius will see the light; they feel that an arranged marriage to the Carrow girl will surely set him on the right path. Regulus does not share his parents’ optimism, but has kept his opinion to himself thus far.

At school, he has continued to be the son he feels his parents deserve. Sorted into Slytherin (naturally), he receives high marks, plays Seeker on the house quidditch team, and has managed to stay out of trouble. He excels in all of his classes, but has a particular proclivity for potions and transfiguration.

Although he’s made his share of friends (the right sort of friends) at school, his best friend is his cousin Narcissa. Close since early childhood, they’ve shared everything with each other, from their hopes and dreams to silly games and inside jokes. In all honesty, she is the only person who truly knows him. He adores Cissa and would, quite literally, do anything for her.

personality
Not much has changed since childhood. He is still relatively quiet and assuming, at least on the surface, but with an underlying streak of ambition and hunger. Although he’d never admit it (except, perhaps, to Cissa), he dreams big and longs for acceptance, both from his parents and the wizarding world at large. His day will soon come, however; for now, he is simply biding his time.

Like Narcissa, Regulus is curious. He often joins her on little adventures, and his stealth has prevented them from getting caught on several occasions. He has thirst for knowledge that, were he not so clearly a Slytherin, might be well-placed in Ravenclaw. Indeed, the few non-Slytherins he finds remotely tolerable are, unsurprisingly, members of Ravenclaw House.

He is clean-cut, well-mannered, and respectful (at least towards those he deems worthy of respect). His general air, when not in the sanctuary that is Slytherin House, is one of calm, polite indifference. Only among like-minded peers does he feel comfortable enough to step out from behind this "mask".

Future: Within a year, Regulus will be recruited by and join the Death Eaters. He will, however, have a change of heart after seeing first hand what the Dark Lord is capable of. After discovering the secret of Voldemort's immortality - horcruxes - he will sacrifice his life to secure and destroy the locket.
