history & background
Bella Constanze Dunstan was born on April 9th, 1984, just sixteen months after her older brother Byron. The middle child and only daughter of Deirdre and Michael Dunstan, Bella (or Bee, as she's called by her family) was a happy, outgoing child with an active imagination. Her days were filled with reading (especially fairytales), dancing, drawing, writing, and inventing wild tales to amuse her brothers and parents.

Her first real sign of magic - other than minor things here and there - was displayed at the tender age of four. She was colouring in a picture book about dragons when she discovered that her purple crayon had gone missing. Extremely upset by this (as only a four-year-old could be), she went to her mother for help. Deirdre was busy with baby Braxton and simply encouraged her to use a different crayon. Little Bella, not at all pleased with this advice, stalked back to her colouring book. When Deirdre went to check on her too-quiet daughter (Bella wasn’t one to let something go that easily) ten minutes later, she found the child colouring happily, every crayon in her box having turned a different shade of purple.

In general, Bella was a good kid: clever, well-behaved and respectful. However, she had a headstrong streak and, at times, more energy than Deirdre and Michael could handle. Luckily, she had her big brother around. He was more than just her brother; he was her best friend. The two oldest siblings romped around all day and often snuck out of the house at night, running off to explore and have adventures while their parents slept on, oblivious to the youngsters' midnight excursions.

When Byron left for school, Bella was crushed. Although he promised to – and did – owl her every week, it just wasn’t the same without him around (Braxton was little and boring). The year passed by at a snail’s pace, but finally she was off to join her brother at Hogwarts. Her excitement, however, was short-lived. Given her family history, and the fact that she was an extremely bright, curious child, everyone (including her) expected that she would be
sorted into Ravenclaw.

The Sorting Hat had other ideas. While the hat acknowledged that she would be a good candidate for Ravenclaw, it sensed in her fierce loyalty and a generous, energetic spirit that would be a great asset to Hufflepuff. Bella was devastated at first, but soon grew to love her house and housemates. She flourished in Hufflepuff, playing seeker on the house team and discovering a great love for - and significant talent in - Charms and Transfiguration.

Her interest in mediwizardry developed after a near-tragic Quidditch accident during her fifth year. A bludger, hit by one of the Gryffindor beaters, slammed into one of her teammates. The heavy bludger crushed one side of the chaser's face and knocked her off of her broom. The injured girl fell more than thirty feet to the ground, her spine cracking upon impact.

Bella, spurred on by fear and adrenaline, raced to the fallen teammate and managed to perform anti-swelling and pain-relieving charms, a modified petrificus to prevent further injury, and a mobilicorpus before Madam Pomfrey reached the scene. The school healer later told Bella that her quick thinking and skill with a wand most likely saved her friend's life, and encouraged her to consider a career in mediwizardry.

She liked this idea, and, after reviewing her options, decided that the Emergency Floo Response Team (EFRT) would be a perfect fit. There's never a dull moment on the EFRT. When an emergency comes through over the floo, they are the first healers on the scene. They immedately take action, assessing the situation, stabilising victims, and getting them back to St. Mungo's for further treatment. It's a hard, stressful job, but Bella thrives on the energy and excitement.

Bella is relatively new to the team (and also the youngest and only female), but she's already seen her share of tragedy and triumph. She's delivered babies and watched life leave the bodies of those too far gone to be saved. Through it all, however, she maintains her positive outlook. She knows that she, along with her colleagues, is making a difference.

personality
Bella is quirky and energetic, fun-loving and mischievous. A free spirit, she wears what she wants (when not in uniform), says what she wants, and does what she wants - even if that gets her into trouble at times. She doesn’t blatantly ignore the rules of society per se, but she doesn’t have much regard for them, either. There’s not a shy or self-conscious bone in her body, so it’s no surprise she can be rather outrageous at times.

She’s hard-working, but lacks that traditional Hufflepuff focus. Although she has many interests, she gets bored easily. Although she typically has several things going on at once, her usual M.O. is to latch onto a cause or interest with relentless fervor...for about a month. That being said, she also has a tendency to leave things incomplete.

Her apartment is filled with half-finished drawings, half-knitted scarves, and the remnants of a dozen other pet projects left to collect dust. Many times, she will stumble across one of her unfinished masterpieces and continue working on it months or even years later. The results are often confusing (for example, a drawing started in one style and finished in another, or a scarf started in a stockinette stitch and finished with ribbing), but usually delightful and very, very Bella.

Her lack of concentration during the slower moments can, at times, be a source of frustration to her friends and colleagues. She has been known to space out, even during a conversation or meeting, and she’s famous (or infamous, depending on the point of view) for going off on random tangents. At times, all it takes is a word, and Bella's mind will be off and running, leaping from topic to topic, her train of thought completely derailed. Sometimes, this is completely internal, sometimes it's not.

Bella loves helping people, and healing is one of her few interests that hasn't ebbed over the years. She's very good at what she does, and has grown to feel that mediwizardry is her true calling. One of her more remarkable attributes is her calm, commanding presence during emergency/high-stress situations (some of her colleagues have compared it to flipping a switch).

ASTROLOGICAL SIGN: Aries.
The Ram. Cardinal, fire, yang - planetary ruler: Mars. Keywords: "I AM"

Aries is the first sign of the Zodiac and governs the head. Positive characteristics of Aries include courage, enthusiasm, idealism, charisma, quick wits, an ability to "think on one's feet," leadership potential, exuberant energy, zeal, and innocence. Negative traits include selfishness, tactlessness, egocentrism, an inability to save money, impetuousness, a hot temper, combativeness, oversensitivity, carelessness, and cruelty.

Hufflepuff Ariens have an extreme abundance of energy; however, the usual Hufflepuff tendency to work hard out of duty is modified by the Aries tendency to value play over work. Therefore, expect long periods of playfulness and seeming indolence punctuated by brief, manic bursts of industry. These Hufflepuffs may also be more ambitious and socially aggressive than average, making them clear leaders in their House. Their emotional warmth, open hearts, madcap sense of humour, and quirky independence will endear them to many people, but their naivete makes for easy exploitation by more ruthless sorts of people.
(taken from birds of a feather)

THREE RANDOM FACTS:
1. She can speak French, German, Russian, and Scottish Gaelic...but none fluently.
2. She’s ambidextrous, but tends to favour her left hand.
3. She is afraid of caterpillars, but not butterflies
