the basics
NAME: Mirabella Adelaide Moran
NICKNAME(S): Ellie, Moran
AGE: 16
BIRTHDAY: 3 October 1958
HOUSE: Hufflepuff
YEAR: Fifth
WAND: 12”, Rowan with phoenix feather core. Nice and whippy.
PET: a large tomcat named Bluebeard
SEXUALITY: Heterosexual
BLOOD: Halfblood
ALIGNMENT: If she really gave any thought to it, it would be OotP. However, her life is so far removed from politics and the impending war that it doesn’t seem real at the moment.

family
MOTHER: Callisto Davies Moran, pureblood. Ravenclaw 1948-1955. Freelance photographer for Witch Weekly.
FATHER: Garrett Moran, muggleborn. Hufflepuff 1948-1955. Keeper for the Kenmare Kestrals.
BROTHERS: Leoncavallo (Leo). Ravenclaw. Graduated 1973, currently assistant sports writer for the Daily Prophet; Preston, 7.
SISTER:Clarimonde (Claire), 12. Second year Ravenclaw.

history
Garrett Moran is the younger of twin sons born to Jonah Moran, an Irish muggle playwright, and his American-born wife Adelaide, a muggle actress who retired from the Dublin stage upon the birth of her sons. Garrett was thrilled to discover that he was a wizard, and quickly grew accustomed to life at Hogwarts and the wizarding world in general. An excellent Quidditch player, Garrett was drafted by the Kenmare Kestrals directly after graduation and remains one of Ireland’s most celebrated players. He married his Hogwarts sweetheart, Callisto, exactly one week before his professional debut as reserve keeper against the Montrose Magpies (Garrett did not take over as starting keeper until Darren O'Hare's retirement in 1960). His twin brother, Jameson, is not a wizard – something that proved to be a sore spot in their otherwise close relationship for many years.

Callisto Davies Moran is the only child of Aloysius and Gwennan Davies. A pureblood descended from a lesser branch of the Welsh Davies line, she was raised with traditional wizarding values and customs. While her family wasn’t important enough to associate much with the Most Ancient and Noble Houses, she had many friends from other wizarding families. Callisto was a natural-born Ravenclaw - a bright, inquisitive child who much preferred books and learning to sports and parties. An avid photographer, she met her future husband while shooting Quidditch team pictures for the school annual. She works as a freelance photographer for Witch Weekly, a position that allows her to pursue her interests and stay at home with her children.

Ellie, the second of four children born to Garrett and Callisto, is the only one who has inherited her father’s talent thus far. She was flying almost as soon as she could walk, and loves everything about Quidditch. Her older brother Leo shares this passion, but prefers to watch from the sidelines. He was the Quidditch announcer during his last three years at Hogwarts, and now has his dream job covering the professional Quidditch circuit for the Daily Prophet.

The Morans are a close-knit family. While financially very comfortable (thanks to Garrett’s profession), they live a relatively modest existence in County Cork. Garrett and Callisto have done their best to raise their children out of the spotlight, and have had fair success. As a result, however, Ellie was a bit sheltered before coming to Hogwarts. She grew up in a very loving and nurturing household, where she felt she could say or do just about anything without fear of causing offense or being made to feel like a fool. While she greatly respects her parents, she considers them more like friends than authority figures, and tends to assign this familiarity to all adults – even when it is not appropriate. She’s always felt very comfortable sharing her thoughts and opinions, and is just now beginning to realize that there is a time and place for everything.

Ellie was a bit of a late-bloomer. She is very petite and, until the beginning of her fourth year, still looked very much like a child. She was never ashamed of her child-like appearance, and is still getting used to her feminine curves. She’s also slightly awkward around boys. Through Quidditch and her outgoing nature, she has plenty of male friends – however, her newly-developed curves and raging female hormones have added a whole new dimension to her interactions with the opposite sex.

personality
Ellie is, at her core, an easygoing, happy person. She tends to view the world with rose-colored glasses, and always tries to give others the benefit of the doubt. Her friendly, fun disposition and wicked Quidditch skills (and her famous father, although she resents the sycophantic overtures of those who only want to befriend her for that reason) have afforded her a fair amount of popularity at Hogwarts. While her first love is most definitely Quidditch, she has other passions as well, including Potions, music, and, oddly enough, ballroom dancing (thanks to her paternal grandmother).

Ellie also has a sensitive, empathetic side. She wants to be friends with everyone, and hates thinking that someone may not like her. This has been an issue with Slytherins in particular, as many of them seem to think that Hufflepuff is simply the catch-all house for blithering idiots. Ellie knows this isn’t true, but it still hurts. Sure, there are some less talented folk in her house, but you’ll never find a nicer bunch of people. As with most Hufflepuffs, she is very loyal to her friends and family. It’s hard to fall out of favor with Ellie, but if someone hurts a person she cares about…well, they’d better watch out.

Despite being what most would consider a jock, she isn’t a tomboy. Well, not anymore. She’s grown to appreciate and enjoy the “girlier” things in life.

miscellaneous
AT SCHOOL
CLASSES: Potions, Herbology, DADA, History of Magic, Care of Magical Creatures, Charms, Transfiguration, Astronomy.
CLUBS/ACTIVITIES: Chaser on the house Quidditch team, Slug Club (she’s fully aware that her invitation may have had something to do with her father’s celebrity, but hopes to prove her own worth).

VIEWS
ON VOLDEMORT: Volde-who? She’s heard of him, of course (who hasn’t?), but doesn’t fully understanding what he stands for or what he’s capable of.
ON BLOOD PURITY: Ellie doesn’t believe this idea holds much merit. It’s silly to think that someone’s ability as a witch or wizard has anything to do with how pure their blood is.
ON THE OTHER HOUSES: Ellie is fine with pretty much everyone. She enjoys the fearless Gryffindor spirit and thinks they’re great fun. She admires the Ravenclaw dedication to knowledge and sometimes wishes she had inherited a bit more of that from her mum (she’s a good student, but only when it comes to subjects she truly cares about. She puts far less effort into other subjects, and her so-so marks in these subjects are a reflection of this philosophy). She appreciates the Slytherins’ ambition and drive, but dislikes their prevailing sense of elitism.

LIKES: Quidditch, potions, music, ballroom dance, a good laugh, animals (whether magical or not), muggle musicals (she’s seen several West End productions with her grandparents), sangria, cinnamon candies, second chances.
DISLIKES: Bullies, meat, confined spaces, stereotypes.

TALENTS: Excellent chaser with undeniable grace on a broomstick and a keen mind for strategy. Great at Potions and quite handy with charms. Has a rather lovely singing voice, but will only sing if she thinks no one is listening.

FLAWS: Terrible at Astronomy and not much better in Herbology. Somewhat naive - she tends to think the best of people and is always crushed when they end up disappointing her. Doesn’t take criticism very well. Sometimes thinks she can "fix" people, even when they don't want or need her help.

ASTROLOGICAL SIGN: Libra
Libra is the seventh sign of the zodiac and governs the kidneys, lower back, and buttocks. Positive traits include a rational, logical mind, a fine sense of aesthetics, diplomatic aplomb, good taste, charm, skill with words, intelligence, an innate sense of fairness and justice, and exceptional beauty. Negative characteristics include indecisiveness, excessive dependence on other people, conformist tendencies, manic depression, extravagance, and manipulation.

Libras sorted into House Hufflepuff are some of the sweetest, most charming individuals you will ever meet. They work hard at their studies compared to other Libras (most Libras would rather coast on their strengths than apply themselves to all their subjects) and are often quite successful. Physically, however, they remain unathletic and lazy - the closest they'll ever get to a Quidditch match is the spectator's box, and that only if the weather is pleasant. Anything beautiful and harmonious appeals to the Hufflepuff Libra. Since potions and alchemy require an instinctive awareness of the harmony of ingredients, Hufflepuffs who are Libras display a surprising facility in these subjects. These wizards live to help other people, and to help their friends get along with each other; nothing hurts them more than to see people in distress or bickering with each other. Feuds and wars between wizards distress them. Equally distressing is the disharmony between Muggles and magic users. Many Hufflepuff Libras become Muggle specialists, hoping to bridge the gap between magical and non-magical. (taken from birds of a feather)

RANDOM FACT: Her younger brother, Preston, may be a Squib. He’s 7, and so far hasn’t shown any signs of magic. Everyone is hoping he will come into his own when she gets a bit older.

FUTURE:Ellie will go on to play professional Quidditch, both with the Holyhead Harpies and the Irish National Team.

PLAYED BY: Alexis Bledel
